PITTSBURGH -- One of the Pitt Panthers' best entering the 2023 season earned preseason recognition from the ACC media last week, as they voted on the preseason all-conference team at league media days.

The Panthers landed just one first-team All-ACC selections in offensive tackle Matt Goncalves  Their lone selections ranks last among conference teams who did earn a first-teamer, tied with Virginia, NC State, Louisville and Syracuse.

Goncalves, a first-team selection, has emerged as one of the Panthers' best offensive lineman after a strong 2022 campaign in which he helped fill in for Carter Warren, a starter and team captain who went down with a knee injury midway through the season. He projects as a starter at right tackle this coming season.

Placekicker Ben Sauls and return man M.J. Devonshire had been selected to Preseason All-ACC teams by other outlets, but missed the cut for the official selections.

No Pitt players received any ACC Player of the Year votes.
