Calijah Kancey to Miss Multiple Weeks with Calf Injury

The former Pitt Panthers star will be sidelined for several weeks.

PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers defensive tackle Calijah Kancey's first NFL training camp got off to an unfortunate start when he came up limping in the middle of a non-contact drill during his first week of practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bucs' first 2023 round pick of out of Pitt, Kancey will be sidelined for the next four weeks, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, as he recovers from a strained left calf.

Four weeks would be an encouraging timeline for Kancey. That would mean he is back on the field with almost two full weeks to go before the Buccaneers open the 2023 season against Minnesota on the road.

Tampa Bay selected Kancey with the 19th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, giving Pitt first-round picks in consecutive drafts for the first time since 2008-09. He had been wowing Buccaneers brass since stepping into their team.
