PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers won 11 games behind the best offense in school history. They scored 41.4 points and gained 486.6 yards per game, both program records.

The trio that spearheaded such a prolific attack - quarterback Kenny Pickett, wide receiver Jordan Addison and offensive coordinator Mark Whipple - are all gone, off to new teams each for different reasons. But the Panthers still return eight offensive starters and good depth at the skill positions. While the offense may look a little different, and be more run-heavy as players and coaches alluded to during spring practices, starting tackle Carter Warren says that new offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti hasn't changed much.

“I wouldn’t say it’s too much of a change," Warren said. "It’s the same offense. A bit different, but I don’t want to speak on it too much.”

Carter chose to return for a sixth and final season of college football alongside the rest of the starting offensive line. The continuity in his position group and the system has allowed the Panthers to work on perfecting their fundamentals.

“Overall, we’re just working hard, getting our offense down together and just sticking to the fundamentals and the basics,” Warren said.

There's still a quarterback competition between Kedon Slovis and Nick Patti that needs to play out, but Warren isn't concerned with that just yet. Position battles can wait until training camp begins and for now, he said everyone is working on improving their individual skills.

"I say with the [offesnive] line group, we’re sticking together in our same roots," Warren said. "Grinding out and working hard every day. Sticking to the basics.”
