PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have lost a young assistant coach, who will now make the short trip down Fifth Avenue to work for Duquesne this season.

Mickey Jacobs, who had spent the last four seasons with the Panthers, will join the Dukes as safeties coach and special teams coordinator, the program announced this week.

During his first two years, Jacobs was a recruiting assistant, helping Pitt land the likes of P.J. O'Brien, Gavin Bartholomew, Elliot Donald, Rodney Hammond, Javon McIntyre, Nahki Johnson, Nate Yarnell, Branson Taylor, Israel Abanikanda, Dayon Hayes, Bangally Kamara, Jordan Addison and many more. The 2021 class he helped bring to Pittsburgh was ranked 21st nationally by Rivals.

Over the following two seasons, Jacobs served as a defensive graduate assistant, aiding the Panthers' aggressive defense as they won the 2021 ACC Championship, sent 10 defenders to the NFL Draft and saw defensive tackle Calijah Kancey win 2022 ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Jacobs, a native of Fox Chapel, played at Duquesne and interned on the program's strength and conditioning staff before being promoted to defensive quality control coach in 2018.
