Bears Release Former Pitt QB
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers quarterback Nathan Peterman had competed all summer to try and win the Chicago Bears' backup job, but has fallen short.
The Bears cut Peterman, a former Tennessee and Pitt signal-caller, was released by his team this week as they trim the roster down from 90 to 53 players, according to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
This preseason, Peterman appeared in all three games, starting one and completing 58.3% of his 24 passes for 173 yards and one touchdown while also rushing for 22 yards on four attempts.
In college, Peterman orchestrated one of the best offenses in Pitt history. In 2016, he started all 13 games for the Panthers, who set what were then school records in scoring. He completed 60.5% of his passes for 2,855 yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions while posting the ACC's highest passer rating (163.4).
