Former Pitt OL Waived by Bears
PITTSBURGH -- After spending all of training camp with them, a former Pitt Panthers offensive lineman was waived with an injury as the final roster cut deadline draws closer.
Former Pitt tackle Gabe Houy, signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent this past spring, but after suffering a leg injury in the preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills, was cut with an injury settlement.
Houy, a 6'6, 325-pound native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a product of Upper St. Clair High School, first saw the field as a redshirt freshman in 2018, making six appearances and one start. He continued to move up the totem pole with each passing year, making six starts and playing in 12 games in 2019, eight starts in nine games during 2020 and 12 starts in 13 games during the 2021 season.
He earned third-team All-ACC honors in 2021 and returned in 2022, hoping to continue making a large impact like he had the year before. Instead, his final season at Pitt was riddled with injuries that kept him sidelined for the first two games of the season and limited him to eight games and five starts. He has experience at both guard and tackle from his collegiate career.
