PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers chose a new starting punter last week and lost a punter this week. Caleb Junko earned the top spot in the punting room and a scholarship, which left his competitor looking elsewhere.

Jeff Yurk, a junior transfer from FCS Elon, battled with Junko all throughout spring ball and training camp to earn Pitt's starting punting job, but after losing that job, has left the team. Yurk was not listed on the Panthers' depth chart or roster as they opened Week 1 of the regular season.

Yurk averaged 44.5 yards per kick on his 53 attempts this past season. He was an All-CAA selection this year and set the Elon school record for punting yards. Yurk still has up to three years of college eligibility remaining.

Cam Guess will serve as the backup punter with Yurk on his way out.
