PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers could have one of the best freshmen in the ACC on their roster this season in wide receiver Kenny Johnson.

Johnson was recently named one of the top 10 freshmen in the ACC who could make an impact right away by Rivals college football insider Adam Gorney.

"Some top receivers return but the production of Jared Wayne (60 catches for 1,063 yards and five touchdowns) left for the NFL, and Johnson has been one of the players talked about most heading into the season," Gorney said. "The York (Pa.) Dallastown high three-star receiver chose Pitt shortly after his official visit there."

Johnson, unanimously considered a three-star recruit coming out of Dallastown Area High School in Dallastown, Pennsylvania, was ranked as high as the No. 13 player in the state and No. 19 receiver overall in the class of 2023 (Rivals).

He fielded offers from Penn State, Rutgers, West Virginia, Louisville, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Cincinnati and others before choosing Pitt following an official visit in June.

Johnson has been one of the biggest stars of training camp, making highlight catch after highlight catch and outplaying his age as perhaps the most impressive member of a wildly talented freshman receiver class. The Panthers expect him to be a major contributor right away, if not a starter.
