Pitt Releases First Depth Chart of 2023

The Pitt Panthers have settled some major position battles for now.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have opened their first game week of the 2023 regular season and released their first depth chart in anticipation of the opener this weekend.

This depth chart settles position battles that have been raging all throughout training camp but Pitt has left a couple of those competitions open.

Phil Jurkovec surprised no one when he took the top quarterback job and Penn State transfer Christian Veilleux has beat out Nate Yarnell for the backup job.

At wide receiver, Bub Means and Konata Mumpfield will be joined by Florida transfer Daejon Reynolds in the starting lineup. Freshmen Kenny Johnson and Zion Fowler-El have earned backup spots alongside Jake McConnachie.

Ryan Jacoby and Jason Collier Jr. are listed as co-starters at left guard and Branson Taylor is the lone starter at right tackle.

Karter Johnson, Malcolm Epps and Jake Renda are listed as co-backups at tight end with Gavin Bartholomew as the starter.

Javon McIntyre and P.J. O'Brien open a new era at safety for Pitt as they inherit starting jobs with Erick Hallett and Brandon Hill off to the NFL. Donovan McMillon and Stephon Hall will be their understudies.

The Panthers have four co-starters at defensive tackle and Nate Temple emerged as a starter at defensive end alongside Dayon Hayes.

Solomon DeShields, Shayne Simon and Bangally Kamara are the starters at linebacker with lots of youth behind them.

Pitt is slated to kick off their season opener against Wofford at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, with ACC Network carrying the broadcast.
