PITTSBURGH -- Another Pitt Panther has been named a candidate for a prestigious national award as the countdown to the 2023 season marches on.

Placekicker Ben Sauls is one of 30 at his position named to the Preseason Watchlist for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the top kicker in college football by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

After a slow start, Sauls was masterful down the stretch of the 2023 season and is line for another outstanding campaign in his senior season.

After missing two costly kicks in a tight loss to Tennessee in Week 2, Sauls missed just one of 16 field goal attempts over the final 10 games of the 2022 season. He was the hero of the Sun Bowl win over then-No. 18 UCLA, nailing all five of his kicks, including the game-winner from 47 yards out to earn Pitt its ninth win of the season and Special Teams MVP honors for himself.
