PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers defensive tackle Calijah Kancey has put his first NFL payday to good use while he awaits the start of his first training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kancey, who was the second Panther to be selected in the first round of he NFL Draft in as many years, opted to help out the woman who had supported him for his entire life and bought a new house and Mercedes Benz SUV for his mother. Kancey gifted both presents, along with a massive bouquet of roses, this week.

Kancey was the fourth defensive lineman taken this year and the fifth defensive player selected overall. He will be awarded a four-year contract worth $14,493,475 and a $7,540,709 signing bonus.

He celebrated the occasion with family and friends at the new home, which sold for $1.4 million through the South Florida real estate agency, Grant & Associates.
