PITTSBURGH -- Georgia Tech has fired its head coach.  Geoff Collins is out and Brent Key will assume his role in the interim. Collins' record of 10-28 in Atlanta forced administration to move on and the Yellow Jackets will now have to manage a coaching situation in flux while also preparing for their next opponent, the Pitt Panthers.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi said the circumstances surrounding his opponent have made Week 5 feel more like Week 1. He can't be entirely sure of what to expect from them.

“Changes a lot of things," Narduzzi said. "We don't know. It's like going back to the opening game of the season again, not knowing what they're going to do."

Narduzzi doesn't expect the Jackets to completely overhaul what they do in a matter of days, but is keeping an open mind. Keys, Collins' offensive line coach, comes from in-house and both coordinators are back but coaching turnover has the potential to shake even the best of programs.

"You never know," Narduzzi said. "There's going to be different things that maybe they're allowed to do that they couldn't do before. So you really don't know. And I've never been in that situation. So I don't know what the preparation will be like. I don't know their kids. I don't know where the focus will be."

But Narduzzi won't let that uncertainty lull him into a false sense of security. For all of the losses Georgia Tech endured under Collins, one thing they did well was recruit and those players aren't leaving with him.

"It doesn't matter who the head coach is," Narduzzi said. "They have a lot of good talent. ... They've got a lot of good skill guys at all positions."

He hopes that the Panthers - who he said did not play with proper emotion and intensity against Rhode Island - will not take this opponent lightly and prepare like they will have the a top-five team standing across them at Acrisure Stadium this weekend.

"We're going to prepare for our first ACC game like we've got Clemson walking in the door," Narduzzi said.
