Former Pitt TE Catches First NFL Touchdown
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers tight end Lucas Krull is starting to make a real impact during his second season in the NFL.
In fact, Krull, who's becoming a bigger part of the Denver Broncos offense late in the season, caught his first touchdown pass in primetime on Christmas Eve against the New England Patriots. He climbed the ladder and won the battle for a jump ball in the endzone midway through the fourth quarter, with the Broncos desperately needing to put six on the scoreboard.
Krull ended training camp as the Saints' most-targeted receiver, despite playing in just two preseason games. He hauled in 10 of 23 total targets for 136 total yards but was cut by New Orleans at the end of the preseason.
The Broncos picked him up quickly after and he's appeared in five games for them this season and made his first start while hauling in six total catches for 81 yards and the one touchdown in 2023.
Krull spent two years in Pittsburgh and played the full season just once but was a valuable part of the Panthers' 2021 ACC Championship squad. He caught 38 passes for 451 yards and six touchdowns, the most scores by a Pitt tight end since Dorin Dickinson's 10 in 2009.
