PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are riding a three-game losing streak for the first time since October 2020, but they appear set up for a bounce back with a struggling opponent next up on the schedule.

Pitt has opened as a two-point favorite over Virginia Tech, according to BetOnline.ag. The Panthers will visit Blacksburg, Virginia and Lane Stadium for a primetime kickoff at 8:00 p.m. on ACC Network this weekend.

Pitt has won the last three games in this series, which dates back to 1993, and 10 of the last 14 contests against the Hokies. The previous three matchups have not been particularly close, either, with the Panthers outscoring Virginia Tech 120-50.

Last season, Israel Abanikanda rushed for school record totals of 320 yards and six touchdowns to fuel a 45-29 victory at Acrisure Stadium.

This year, the Panthers are in worse shape, riding a losing streak and with the status of their starting quarterback, Phil Jurkovec in question after he was knocked out of their previous game against North Carolina. Backup Christian Veilleux completed just eight of 19 passes for 88 yards and two interceptions in relief.
