Pat Narduzzi Provides Injury Update on Phil Jurkovec
PITTSBURGH -- In the second quarter of the Pitt Panthers' loss to North Carolina on Saturday, the team lost its starting quarterback in Phil Jurkovec for the rest of the game.
Jurkovec was injured on a third-down run during the last drive of the half after Tayon Holloway hit him high and was ejected for targeting. Jurkovec was slow to get up and remained on the sideline for the rest of the half before being ruled out with an undisclosed injury.
Due to the nature of how the injury occurred on the field, there was a belief that Jurkovec could have been placed in the concussion protocol. Pat Narduzzi, however, threw cold water on that notion with a brief update on his status postgame.
"He's not in protocol," Narduzzi said.
With little known about Jurkovec's condition as of now, his availability is up in the air for next week's game against Virginia Tech. Christian Veilluex, who played the entire second half in his place, would likely remain the starter if Jurkovec were to miss additional time.
