Pitt Opponent Extends Elite Head Coach
PITTSBURGH -- A Pitt Panthers opponent has locked up the head coach that led them to an ACC Championship and the very edge of their first College Football Playoff berth since the very first edition of the tournament in 2014.
According to a report from Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellinger, Florida State has signed head coach Mike Norvell to a new eight-year contract that will pay him $8 million per season, keeping him in Pitt's home conference for the foreseeable future.
Norvell has led the Seminoles to consecutive 10-win seasons, ranked finishes and they came within one controversial decision of going to the College Football Playoff after posting an undefeated 13-0 record during the regular season and winning the ACC for the first time since 2014.
This move from Florida State administrators comes on the heels of Nick Saban, the legendary Alabama head coach, announcing that he would retire and cede control of one of the sport's biggest brands and best programs.
Norvell was expected to be a serious candidate for the opening but this long contract extension ensured that he was out of the running, even before the Crimson Tide landed former Washington head coach, Kalen DeBoer.
The Panthers are scheduled to face the Seminoles three times over the next seven seasons, all of which will come in successive seasons from 2025 to 2027.
