Pat Narduzzi Disagreed With Key Penalty Call Against Pitt
PITTSBURGH -- Late in the fourth quarter on Saturday, the Pitt Panthers saw a number of calls go against them that head coach Pat Narduzzi wasn't particularly fond of.
After the Panthers' offense gave the team a 17-14 lead with 1:30 left in the game against Wake Forest, the defense held up their end of the bargain as M.J. Devonshire came away with an interception that appeared as though it would be the nail in the coffin for the Demon Deacons.
Once the play was over, though, Donovan McMillon was called for two separate unsportsmanlike penalties after pulling a player off of the pile. He was subsequently ejected while the ball was moved from Pitt's 28-yard line to its 7-yard line, placing the Panthers in a precarious situation. The Panthers then went three-and-out following the ruling that Christian Veilleux was short of the first down on his slide, forcing a punt and allowing Wake Forest to take over near midfield before scoring a touchdown to win the game.
Narduzzi came to the defense of McMillon and was confused about the nature of the call, stating it was not something he's seen before.
"Donovan was just trying to get our guy off the pile. They called him for that, which you never see. I don’t know what happened after that,” Narduzzi said.
