PITTSBURGH -- Wake Forest is dealing with a thin quarterbacks room this week as they prepare to take on the Pitt Panthers.

Ahead of a mid-afternoon kickoff, the two quarterbacks that opened the year atop Wake Forest's depth chart were not on the field warming up, leaving redshirt sophomore Santino Marucci as the starter for the Demon Deacons against Pitt. Les Johns of Demon Deacon Digest reported that they will indeed give Marucci his first start.

Mitch Griffis and Michael Kern split time under center in Wake Forests' last game against Virginia Tech until Kern left with a shoulder injury. He's expected to miss multiple weeks. Griffis also got banged up against the Hokies and was questionable throughout the week.

Marucci has played just six snaps during his career, all on special teams, at Wake Forest and never attempted a pass. The former three-star recruit held offers from Nebraska, Kentucky, Cincinnati and others coming out of the class of 2021 before picking the Demon Deacons.
