Pitt Prevails in Fight for Three-Star LB
PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers came away with a major victory as their National Signing Day endeavors concluded.
Pitt convinced consensus three-star linebacker Jeremiah Marcelin to stick with his commitment to the school in the face of significant pressure from two different programs.
According to Chris Peak of Panther-Lair, Marcelin was heavily pursued by both Maryland and Louisville following his initial pledge to the Panthers in June. He took official visits to both schools in the summer and was courted throughout the duration of his commitment to Pitt, putting his status with the Panthers in jeopardy leading up to signing day.
While it appeared for a moment that Marcelin would ultimately spurn Pitt for Maryland in the waning seconds of his recruitment, he changed his mind and stuck with the Panthers, closing out a successful day for the program.
Marcellin is in his final season at Norland High School in Miami, Florida, and earned additional offers from Miami, UCF, Florida State, Auburn, Tennesse, Kentucky, Syracuse, West Virginia and others.
Marcelin is one of three linebacker signees in Pitt's Class of 2024, joining Cameron Lindsey and Davin Brewton. The 6'2 and 220-pound prospect was ranked as high as the No. 79 player in the state and No. 28 linebacker (Rivals). He accounted for 59 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, six sacks and a fumble recovery in 13 games in 2023.
