PITTSBURGH -- The first Associated Press Poll of the 2023 season has been released and the Pitt Panthers earned some consideration, but not enough to crack the Top 25.

Pitt garnered 16 votes in the preseason poll, good for the 32nd most among teams to receive votes and fourth among ACC schools. No. 8 Florida State, No. 9 Clemson and No. 21 North Carolina were the only teams from within the conference to receive more votes than the Panthers.

Five opponents on Pitt's schedule - The No. 9 Seminoles, No. 13 Notre Dame, No. 21 Tar Heels, Louisville and Duke - earned votes in this poll. Three of those teams will visit Acrisure Stadium this fall.

The Panthers were also left on the outside looking in at the Preseason Coaches Poll this year, earning the 30th-most votes of anyone in the country. There will be plenty of opportunities to move up quickly, with two Power 5 opponents and North Carolina on the schedule within the first four weeks.
