PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers boasted a solid wide receivers corps last season - the fourth best in the ACC, according to Pro Football Focus - and only got better as the year wore on.

But ESPN's David Hale expects them to fall behind a conference that will have lots of new faces this year. Hale ranked the Panthers' sixth in the ACC for the coming season, in a second tier alongside No. 4 Louisville, No. 5 Duke and No. 7 Syracuse in a second tier of the league.

Pitt has two of the more productive returning pass-catchers in the ACC in Konata Mumpfield (No. 9 in PFF grade among returning receivers) and tight end Gavin Bartholomew (tied for first in catches as an in-line tight end).

What likely holds the Panthers back is the lack of depth behind their top line. For as solid as Bub Means, Mumpfield and Bartholomew - along with Karter Johnson and Malcolm Epps - all are, who will make up the remainder of the snaps at wideout remains to be seen.

The Panthers will be relying on either Daejon Reynolds, who has 12 receptions over two seasons to his name, Jake McConnachie, a former walk on without a career reception, or their freshmen - Kenny Johnson, Israel Polk and Lamar Seymore - to fill out the lineup.
