PITTSBURGH -- A third Pitt Panthers defender has enterd the transfer portal this week as the offseason begins in earnest for a team not headed to the postseason.

Buddy Mack III, a senior linebacker from Greer, South Carolina, intends to enter the transfer portal and leave Pitt with a year of eligibility remaining, according to a report from Karl Ludwig of Pittsburgh Sports Now

Mack, a converted high school safety, appeared in 28 games over four seasons as a Panther, totalling 11 tackles as a backup linebacker and special teamer, all of which came during his freshman year.

The Panthers have a healthy group of young linebackers waiting behind Brandon George, who also opted to transfer this offseason, and Shayne Simon, who has exhausted his college eligibility. Starters Solomon DeShields and Bangally Kamara are eligible to return to Pitt and Kyle Louis, Braylan Lovelace and Jordan Bass, who all took some reserve snaps as freshmen, are expected to return as well.
