Former Pitt S Damar Hamlin Cleared for Return to Football
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers safety Damar Hamlin has taken another remarkable step forward in his recovery from cardiac arrest. After months of recovery, Hamlin has been cleared to return to workouts as the Buffalo Bills returned for voluntary conditioning workouts this week.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane said that the former Pitt defensive back, Hamlin had been given the all clear from his doctors last week and was in attendance at the Bills' practice facility at the start of team workouts.
"He is fully cleared. He's here," Beane said. "And he's in a great headspace to make his return."
Hamlin was in the middle of a stellar second season with the Bills when he went into cardiac arrest during the Bills-Bengals game in January. He took advantage of some thin ranks in Buffalo's secondary and appeared in 15 games, making 13 starts, while recording 91 tackles, six tackles for loss, two passes defended and a forced fumble.
He'll be in line to compete for playing time again this season, when months ago, a return to football did not seem likely.
