PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers threw their hat in the ring for a blue-chip recruit in the class of 2024.

This week, the Panthers extended an offer to four-star small forward V.J. Edgecombe, a native of Nassau, Bahamas who attends Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York.

Edgecombe is considered the No. 3 player in the state of New York. He's ranked as high as the No. 9 small forward and No. 23 player overall in the class of 2024 (On3). Both 247Sports and Rivals have him pegged as a top-50 player in the class and ESPN has him at No. 52.

The Panthers have just one player currently committed to their 2024 recruiting class. Pittsburgh native and four-star combo guard Brandin Cummings, the brother of former Panthers point guard Nelly Cummings, was the first to offer a verbal pledge to head coach Jeff Capel and his staff.
