LAS VEGAS — Three days before Kansas City takes on San Francisco in Super Bowl LVIII a name appeared in the Chiefs’ injury report SMU fans didn’t want to see.

Rookie receiver Rashee Rice was listed as a limited participant in Thursday’s practice after being listed as a full participant Wednesday. Chiefs coach Andy Reid had no worries about Rice not being available for Sunday’s game. Reid told pool reporter Peter King that Rice had his ankle stepped on during Wednesday’s practice. “He got stepped on,” Reid told King. “He’s all right.”

That’s good news for Chiefs’ fans as Rice has grown into Patrick Mahomes’ best receiving option other than Travis Kelce. Rice has been a key piece of Kansas City’s offense this season. The second round pick from SMU had 79 catches for 938 yards and a team-high seven touchdowns during the regular season. In the Chiefs’ three playoff games, Rice has caught 20 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown.

Super Bowl LVIII between the Chiefs and 49ers will be televised live from Las Vegas on CBS and fuboTV.
