BREAKING: Gamecocks Land Priority Transfer Target In Kennedy Jones
When at South Carolina's batting lineup and subsequently who was going to be in the field for 2024, the Gamecocks already had an excellent base to start with, as All-Americans like Ethan Petry and Cole Messina, along with players who possess starting experience in Talmadge LeCroy and Will Tippett are set to return. However, losing bats like Braylen Wimmer, Will McGillis, and potentially Gavin Casas, depending on what he decides to do, was going to make the hitting lineup a touch top-heavy this next Spring.
While transfer pickups in North Florida's Austin Brinling and Charlotte's Blake Jackson figure to help offset South Carolina's losses in that aspect, the Gamecocks needed to bring a proven bat who could both hit for power and do the little things to get on base when required. Mark Kingston and his staff got just that on Wednesday in the form of a commitment from UNC-Greensboro's Kennedy Jones.
Jones has been one of the best bats not just in the Southern Conference but the entire country over the past two seasons. In 496 career at-bats, Jones has compiled the following stat line:
Batting Average: .361
On-Base + Slugging Percentage: 1.026
Homeruns: 25
Runs Batted In: 117
With Jones joining the lineup, South Carolina has secured a dynamic trio of batters in Petry, Messina, and Jones, who will lead the charge at the plate next season.
