Gamecocks Land Another Transfer Arm In CofC's Ty Good
When looking at what South Carolina's Baseball program could return for the 2024 season, as many as seven different starters, realistically speaking, could be back in the field and batting lineup for the Gamecocks. However, the same cannot be said when looking at South Carolina's starting rotation, which is expected to lose Jack Mahoney, Will Sanders, Noah Hall, and James Hicks, who came on for the Gamecocks late in the season when injuries affected the team.
In a cutthroat conference like the SEC, relying on multiple career relievers and some true freshmen to fill in that kind of experience and leadership is never ideal. So Mark Kingston and his staff have looked to address this position of need this offseason through the portal. South Carolina has already received a commitment from a transfer with starting experience in Liberty's Garrett Gainey, and on Sunday, secured another transfer commitment, this time from College Of Charleston's Ty Good.
When looking at his stats, Good is a guy that immediately sticks out as a likely weekend starter for the Gamecocks this next season, as in his four-year career in Charleston, the 2023 CAA Pitcher of the Year compiled a 25-14 record, 3.79 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 2.49 career strikeout-to-walk ratio. Good has also proven that he can go toe-to-toe with Power 5 or NCAA Tournament caliber competition, as in three games against Virginia Tech, Michigan State, and UNC-Wilmington last Spring, Ty won each contest, gave up just four earned runs in 17 combined innings of work.
Good is the third transfer pickup for the Gamecocks this offseason and will likely not be the last pitcher or transfer South Carolina lands over the coming months.
