Former Gamecock Infielder Michael Braswell Announces Transfer to LSU
Just a few days after infielder Michael Braswell initially announced he would be leaving South Carolina and entering the transfer portal, he has found a new home within the SEC. The shortstop announced Thursday morning that he is taking his talents to Baton Rouge as he is transferring to LSU.
Braswell appeared in 51 games with the Gamecocks in 2022, hitting .255 with a .725 OPS knocking in 23 RBIs. Though he wasn't South Carolina's most important player on the roster, he continuously became more and more pivotal for the team down the stretch due to the injuries sustained by the infield.
Like your typical middle infielder, Braswell earned his playing time through his silky fielding ability. Braswell's sure-handed glove work frequently got South Carolina out of some tough jams, such as his excellent play against Georgia to help guide the Gamecocks to victory to open up SEC play earlier this year. Braswell also displayed the ability to have some pop off his bat and get extra-base hits anywhere between the foul lines, with his main issue in that department being his consistency.
While Braswell's departure certainly hurts the Gamecocks in terms of their depth, the team still has a lot of talent returning and a lot of reasons to be optimistic for the next season.
