BREAKING: Former Gamecock A'ja Wilson Wins Second Straight WNBA Title
South Carolina's Women's Basketball program has become renowned for the talent they have pumped out in the sport. The crown jewel of that aforementioned group, without question, is A'ja Wilson, who won a national championship at South Carolina, and became one of the greatest players women's college basketball had ever seen.
That résumé is only growing longer in the WNBA, as Wilson has won multiple MVP's, a defensive player of the year award, and won a 2022 WNBA Championship Title with the Las Vegas Aces. This season, Wilson and the Aces went on quest to win back-to-back titles, and accomplished that on Wednesday night, defeating the New York Liberty in Game Four 70-69.
Wilson averaged a double-double throughout the entire WNBA Playoffs, scoring 23.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game. Wilson's performances in the WNBA Finals led to her also claiming her first ever Finals MVP award. Former Gamecock Alaina Coates, who was a reserve forward for Aces, wins her first ever WNBA Championship as well.
