Wednesday afternoon, South Carolina's Dawn Staley was named the USBWA (U. S. Basketball Writers Association) National Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and the third time in four seasons. Staley has led her team to an overall 36-0 season, winning the SEC regular and tournament for the seventh time and remaining the wire-to-wire No. 1 ranked team in the Associated Press Poll for the second year in a row, and their current 38-week streak atop the poll is the second-longest streak in poll history.

Staley will formally accept her award in St. Louis on April 12th at the USBWA College Basketball Awards Banquet, hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club. It's been an eventful period for Coach Staley, as she picked up her 400th win this past Sunday by defeating South Florida 76-45 to advance to the Sweet 16. The USBWA has selected a women's national coach of the year since 1989 and was formed in 1956 at the suggestion of NCAA Director Walter Byers.

Catch Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks back in action this Saturday as they look to advance to the Elite 8 and keep their undefeated streak alive when they take on the #4 seed UCLA Bruins.
