GG Jackson Continues Strong Showing in Summer League
When South Carolina men's basketball star GG Jackson fell all the way to the 45th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, many fans and analysts felt that the 18-year-old from Columbia, SC, was going to make some people who passed on him look foolish. Combine that with the fact that the Memphis Grizzlies drafted Jackson, a franchise that's built a lengthy track record of player development over the past several years, and that feeling only strengthened.
Here we are just a couple of weeks later, and GG Jackson is already starting to change the narrative surrounding him coming out of the draft. In his first Summer League game with the Grizzlies, Jackson progressed significantly throughout the contest and finished the game with 10 points on 50 percent shooting, helping propel Memphis to a two-point win.
Jackson followed this up with a solid eight-point, five-rebound outing in just eleven minutes of action against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. On Thursday, Jackson closed out the Grizzlies' stint in Salt Lake City with a phenomenal closing act, scoring 23 points on 40 percent shooting from the floor, and securing ten rebounds in 27 minutes of action, recording the team's second double-double overall in the Summer League.
Jackson is quickly showing the NBA world that he possesses a ton of potential as a lethal volume scorer for a franchise, and with the young stars Memphis already has on the roster, GG figures to fit in nicely with the Grizzlies.
