What The Undefeated Start Means For The Gamecocks' MBB Team
Things are going according to plan if you ask Lamont Paris and South Carolina's men's basketball team, who are off to a perfect 5-0 start, which hasn't been done since the 2016-17 season. Analyzing the film, the biggest difference maker for the Gamecocks has been their collective experience and playing a better brand of basketball.
In a press conference held on the 5th of November, coach Paris stated he'll be able to open up the playbook a lot more this year, so to speak.
"In terms of what I like to do offensively, we're much better suited with this group from a skills standpoint to do some of those things."
Ta'Lon Cooper, currently the SEC leader in assists per game (5.4), has been indispensable in orchestrating the offense. So long are the days of GG Jackson and Meechie Johnson being the lifeline of the offense; Carolina now has a variety of ways they can score the basketball, evidenced by the fact that five different players are averaging nine or more points per game and shooting 48 percent or better from the field.
Many eyes will go to senior B.J. Mack, the team's leading scorer, but D.C. native Myles Stute is another weapon I'm sure will pay dividends for the Gamecocks this season.
Off to a hot start in his second year at the helm, as well as locking in a highly coveted 2025 scorer, Eli Ellis, it is now a sure thing to say in Coach Paris we trust!
