The South Carolina Gamecocks lost their fourth frontcourt player to the transfer portal on Thursday afternoon, as it was reported by the twitter account Verbal Commits that Daniel-Hankins Sanford was entering the portal. The 6'8 power forward Charlotte, N.C., is a former Top 150 recruit in the 2022 recruiting class and was a finalist for Mr. Basketball in North Carolina, coming out at Julius L. Chambers

Daniel originally committed to the old staff under assistant coach Brian Steele and head coach Frank Martin back in November of 2021, but decided to stay with the Gamecocks after Frank Martin was fired in March of 2022. In his first year at South Carolina, Daniel saw action in 22 games this year, averaging 2.3 points per game. 2.2 REB and 0.2 AST, and played 8 minutes per game on average.

South Carolina now has five roster spots to work with after the departures of Daniel Hankins-Sanford, Ja'Von Benson, Tre-Vaughn Minott, Ford Cooper Jr., and senior Hayden Brown. If G.G. Jackson enters the NBA Draft, which we fully expect to happen, South Carolina will then have six spots to work with to help build a more complete roster to help the Gamecocks both build around their developing core and compete in the 2023-2024 basketball season.
