ICYMI: Two Gamecock Freshmen Included On Freshman Of The Year Watch List
Shane Beamer and South Carolina's Football program brought in an impressive crop of freshmen in their 2023 recruiting class, a class full of prospects that Beamer has said repeatedly will see the field this Fall. Two of them, in particular, will now begin the season with even more eyes on them, as linebacker Grayson "Pup" Howard and wide receiver Nyckoles Harbor have been named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award watch list, recognizing the nation's most outstanding freshman in college football.
Grayson "Pup" Howard, a dynamic Linebacker, could be one of the primary keys to this defense's success. Pup Howard is the perfect blend of size and speed to play in the SEC, and he's already piqued the interest of others outside the Columbia area. Howard, who has already repped some with the first team very well, could see the field early and often this Saturday night against the Tar Heels.
On the other hand, Nyckoles Harbor, a versatile athlete who's transitioning to wideout, has made Gamecocks anxious in their angst to see this young man's talent under the lights. Known for his agility, size, and speed, Harbor has the upside to be a pivotal contributor to the Gamecocks' offense over time and certainly draw defenses' attention from the very beginning.
The inclusion of two Gamecocks on the watch list continues to show the university's successful recruiting efforts and speaks volumes about the potential these two young athletes have. As the season progresses, eyes will be on Howard and Harbor to live up to their preseason hype and compete for the title of Freshman of the Year. This recognition is just the beginning for these two Gamecocks, and I'm sure fans are excited to see where their potential will take them.
