The Latest On NFL Gamecocks Who Were On The 53-Man Bubble
Over the past five weeks, many former Gamecock gridiron stars have been battling dozens of other players to make the final 53-man roster for their respective NFL teams. Whether you've been in the league for several years or you're an undrafted rookie starting at the bottom rung, depending on your standing with the team or the work you put in throughout training camp compared to others, making and then staying on an active NFL roster is extremely difficult.
Based on the news that's circulated over the past few days, these are the notable Gamecocks who either made a 53-man roster or just fell short.
RB Kevin Harris - Waived by the New England Patriots and signed to their practice squad
WR Shi Smith - Waived By Carolina Panthers
WR Jalen Brooks - Made Dallas' 53-man roster
This is a remarkable achievement for Brooks, who, during his college career, made a significant impact with the Gamecocks, registering 58 career catches for 785 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his reliability and potential as a game-changer in the receiver position.
WR Josh Vann - Waived by Carolina Panthers
TE Nate Adkins - Made the Denver Bronco's 53-man roster
Adkins' journey to the NFL has been a testament to his talent, work ethic, and willingness to do anything for the team, and it will be exciting to see how he performs in the upcoming season.
OL Jovaughn Gwyn - Made the Atlanta Falcon's 53-man roster
After being drafted in the 7th round in April, and considering his shorter wingspan, which is extremely impactful at his position, Gwyn was not a guarantee to make the Falcons' final 53-man roster. It's clear, however, that his leadership intangibles and his transition to the center position grabbed the attention of Atlanta's coaches, helping the multi-time captain overcome historically long odds to make his first NFL roster.
DT Taylor Stallworth - Waived by the Carolina Panthers
CB Darius Rush - Waived by the Indianapolis Colts and claimed by the Kansas City Chiefs off waivers
This was a move that stunned both those in Gamecock circles and some people who closely follow the NFL. With the preseason's conclusion, it appears that the Colts, for whatever reason, didn't think Rush fit with their future plans. Darius, however, didn't have to wait long for a new home, as he'll be joining the defending Super Bowl Champions in the Kansas City Chiefs.
