Beamer Believes Marcellas Dial Has Made Jump In Preparation For 2023
South Carolina's defense is set to have a lot of new faces in their starting lineup in 2023. While the losses in the secondary don't match the quantity of players who departed the defensive front, they're certainly losing some star power at cornerback, as Cam Smith and Darius Rush have both moved onto the NFL.
Due to their departures, veteran defensive back Marcellas Dial will bear more responsibility in this area of the field in 2023, and has proven to this point that he can be a productive player in Clayton White's defense, recording 45 total tackles, 15 pass deflections and three interceptions this past Fall. Shane Beamer was asked by a media member at his recent "Welcome Home" Tour stop in Greenville, SC on Thursday about whether or not he had made a perceivable jump in Spring ball, and there was no hesitation in his answer.
"I think so. I think the thing for him [is] he made some really big plays for us down the stretch last year. He made some huge plays against Clemson, and we left him and our other defensive backs pretty much on an island the entire game and he made some big time plays," Beamer said. "That gave him great confidence I think, played well in the bowl game as the starter, and he's picked where he left off."
While Dial going into his third season under the tutelage of defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, there's no telling what his ceiling could be this next season.
