Nyckoles Harbor Could Do A Little Bit Of Everything For South Carolina In 2023
South Carolina's Football program reeled in its best recruiting class in over a decade this past recruiting cycle. It's a class that Shane Beamer, fans, and people who closely cover the team believe possesses multiple instant-impact players on both sides of the ball.
The most prominent and nationally recognizable name is Nyckoles Habor, whom the Gamecocks landed on signing day after a long and hard-fought battle against schools like Maryland, Michigan, and Oregon. Now, with six weeks remaining until Harbor suits up in garnet and black threads for the first time, people are trying to figure out the answer to one crucial question: how will Shane Beamer and Dowell Loggains utilize Harbor in his freshman campaign?
While Beamer doesn't want to throw Nyckoles into the proverbial deep end, so to speak, he understands that guys with his ability don't come around often, and the staff thinks there are many ways in which he'll be able to impact the game this Fall.
"I think we just gotta be smart with him. We gotta temper the expectations a little bit. Yes he's really talented, he's really big, he's really fast, but he's also [an] 18-year-old guy that's a freshman in college playing in the SEC," Beamer said on Thursday at SEC Media Days. "He can be a weapon in a lot of ways; carrying the ball, catching the ball - can rush the passer as well, so he's just an immensely talented guy, [and I'm] just excited to see what he and the rest of our offensive guys can do."
After his answer, fellow Gamecock alum and SEC Network Moderator Alyssa Lang a the joke about Pete Lembo asking Beamer if Harbor could play on some of his special teams units, and as it turns out, that discussion has taken place with Beamer agreeing to the proposal. Nyckoles likely won't have jaw-dropping numbers in 2023, and it will take him some time to get acclimated to the receiver position, but it does seem like South Carolina will try to find multiple ways to showcase his talents to help their team win this Fall.
