ICYMI: Shane Beamer Addresses Name Attachment To Mississippi State Opening
On Monday morning, Mississippi State officially announced that they were moving on from head coach Zac Arnett, who went just 5-6 in less than one calendar year in Starkville after being put in what some would term as an unwinnable situation. Whether or not you objectively believe it was the right doesn't hold much weight at this point, as multiple lists or hotboards have been published with potential candidates the Bulldogs could pursue to be their next head coach.
One name mentioned on a couple of lists was Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer, who got his first big coaching at Mississippi State under College Football hall-of-fame coach Sylvester Croom in 2004. Throw in the fact that he met his wife in 'Starkvegas', and some would think that Beamer is a legitimate candidate for the job, but South Carolina's third-year head man conveyed at his weekly Tuesday presser that he's happy with where he's at
"I understand the connection. Wife is from Starkville, [and a] Mississippi State grad. I spent three years there. Not to mention that Zac [Selmon] their athletic director is one of my best friends in the entire world. In fact, the night before I interviewed for this job, we spent Thanksgiving with he and his family, and he and I talk regularly, and [I] got a ton of respect for him, and he's doing an awesome job in Starkville. But no, this is where I want to be, and I love Columbia and want to be here for a long time, and I said when I got hired that this is my dream job, and I still feel that way, and in my mind, we're just just getting started here."
Based on his own words, it appears that Gamecock fans don't have to worry about their head coach skipping town, but we'll, of course, continue to track everything at GamecocksDigest in case anything changes.
