Extra Preparation Time Could Be An ‘X Factor’ For The Gamecocks
Under head coach Shane Beamer, when the Gamecocks have had extra time to prepare for games, they've seen tremendous success. This has been particularly evident in season openers, games following bye weeks, and even during unpredictable circumstances such as hurricanes and the lead-up to bowl games. Every team has the same opportunities during these periods to rest, get better, and adjust, but not every team capitalizes on them as much as this staff has.
Throughout Beamer's first two seasons, he coached in seven such instances. The Gamecocks have posted an impressive 6-1 record over that time frame, with the only loss they suffered during this period being against Notre Dame in the Taxslayer Gator Bowl last season. This highly competitive game showcased the team's resilience despite the unfavorable result.
During these seven games, the Gamecocks averaged 35.9 points per game while only conceding an average of 19.3 points per game. This is a testament to the effectiveness of Beamer's offensive and defensive staff, showcasing their ability to devise winning strategies when given additional preparation time.
They have nearly perfected the art of turning this extra time before bye weeks, season openers, and bowl games into a strategic advantage, leading to a higher probability of winning. Comparatively, over the past two seasons, North Carolina and Mack Brown has played in seven of these types of games as well, compiling just a 2-5 record in the process.
The statistics indicate that the Gamecocks typically emerge victorious when Beamer's staff has more time to prepare. This ability to capitalize on extended preparation time sets Beamer and his staff apart, and they hope to continue this trend in their season opener against Mack Brown and the Tar Heels.
