Shane Beamer Talks Rocket Sanders, Nyck Harbor and Potential New ST Coordinator
During halftime of the men's basketball game this afternoon, Shane Beamer introduced the early enrollees from his 2024 signing class, along with the transfers South Carolina acquired this offseason. Getting those guys in early and participating in Spring practice is huge in more ways than one, and the media had a chance to talk with Beamer after the introductions.
Most fans and media quickly noticed that Raheim Sanders and Kam Pringle were sporting a sling and a boot, respectively. When asked about them, Coach Beamer stated, "Yeah, secrets out on those guys when they come out there on a scooter and a sling." He continued saying, "They'll be limited. Kam won't be able to go at the beginning of Spring; Rocket won't for sure, [but] hopefully by the end of Spring [they'll be back]. Knew it when we brought [Sanders] in that was going to be a thing."
While Shane wasn't able to elaborate on the potential special teams coordinator hire just yet, because it has not been made official, he did talk about the hiring process and what he was looking for, saying:
"For me, from a special teams standpoint, [I'm looking for] someone that can make them even better than they are already - Suppose the thing continues to trend like it looks like. In that case, it's going to look like we have potentially made a grand slam hire with what I was looking for. Was certainly thinking about doing it myself," Beamer explained. "We had different ways to structure it whether it be me doing special teams myself or breaking it amongst the staff and hiring another a defensive coach or offense coach."
He also stated they only interviewed two people, and that he wouldn't hire someone to hire anyone. Another critical note from Shane Beamer was related to wideout Nyck Harbor and his workload between spring ball and track.
"He has been awesome, it's not like he just goes to track, and we see him at football every once in a while. He's involved with football every single day," Shane stated. "He wants to be in the meetings. He wants to be around the football team."
He also stated he will be limited during the spring, but they want to be smart with Harbor and how they use him during track season.
