ICYMI: Contract Details For Gamecocks' New TE Coach Shawn Elliott
On Thursday morning, a partial bombshell was dropped in the college football world when news broke that former South Carolina football assistant Shawn Elliott was rejoining the Gamecocks staff to become their new tight ends coach and run-game coordinator. The reason the news came as a shock was because Elliott was the head coach of his own program at Georgia State, who had just started Spring practice earlier this week; it's seen as another sign of how the times are changing in college athletics.
Nonetheless, this is viewed as a grade-A hire by Shane Beamer due to the passion, program knowledge, and now head coaching experience Shawn will bring back to Columbia this time around. On Friday morning, the board of trustees for the University of South Carolina met and approved a three-year contract for Elliott, as Gamecockscoop's Alan Cole reported from the meeting that the Gamecock's new tight end coach will be paid $750,000 in the first two years and $775,000 in the final year of his deal.
