Situations Around The SEC Gamecock Fans Should Monitor This Offseason
Shane Beamer is embarking on his most pivotal offseason since he took over South Carolina's Football program. For the first time in his head-coaching career, Beamer finds his program on a bit of a down-swing as far as momentum is concerned, and it's up to his staff to turn things around over the next 8 months.
However, South Carolina isn't the only program who'll be an intriguing offseason storyline to follow in the conference. Who are three other teams Gamecock fans should keep an eye on?
Ole Miss Is Loading Up For A Playoff Push
This past offseason, college football fans witnessed the Florida State Seminoles make moves in the transfer portal that were the equivalent of a poker player pushing all of their chips towards the middle of the table. Had it not been for Alabama upsetting Georgia in the SEC Championship, the strategy would've secured the ACC program a spot in the College Football Playoff.
After winning 10 games in 2023, and with the playoff expanding to 12 teams next season, Lane Kiffin seems to be taking the Florida State blueprint and applying it to his Ole Miss program, with the Rebels having landed several notable transfers and still being in the mix for others.
LSU Losing Loads Of Offensive Firepower
LSU is coming off of season that was a mixed bag based on their standards. The Tigers possessed one of the most highly-potent offenses in the entire country, but that group was weighed down by an equally porous defensive unit. Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels is moving onto the NFL, 1,000 yard receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. are both likely gone, and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock has taken the same position at Notre Dame.
Carolina getting the Tigers at home in week three might be the best thing for Shane and his staff, considering all the new faces they'll have offensively.
A New Era In Aggieland
The Gamecocks have played Texas A&M each of the previous 10 seasons, so the two programs have become quite familiar with one another. However, there'll be a new head coach involved in the series come next season, as Mike Elko returns to College Station to take over for Jimbo Fisher, who was fired in November. Elko will bring more of a blue-collar mentality to the team, which fits the history and roots of the school, and he proved in two seasons at Duke that he can punch above his weight.
