SEC Media Days is about to get underway in Nashville, TN, which means that talking season is about to reach its pinnacle, and college football is on the precipice of making its return to all of our living rooms. South Carolina Football fans will have to wait until Thursday to hear Shane Beamer, Spencer Rattler, Tonka Hemingway, and Kai Kroeger discuss the upcoming season for the Gamecocks.

However, this is the SEC, which means there's never a shortage of storylines to follow, even some that the general masses might not immediately think of. Which conference storylines should South Carolina fans pay attention to over the coming days?

Missouri's QB Situation

South Carolina got a lot of proverbial monkeys off their back this past Fall, but one looms large in the Missouri Tigers, who've won each of the past four meetings against the Gamecocks. However, Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz hasn't been able to find stability at the quarterback position and enters the 2023 season with three possible choices; incumbent Brady Cook, multi-sport athlete Sam Horn, and Miami transfer Jake Garcia.

None of the quarterbacks are heading to Nashville, so it'll be interesting to see how Drinkwitz addresses this position with the media on Monday.

Mark Stoops' Presence

2022 wasn't exactly the season that Mark Stoops and his Kentucky Wildcats hoped to have. After taking what most interpreted as an underlying shot at Shane Beamer last Summer, Stoops' Wildcats had their worst season (outside of Covid-season) since 2017, losing six games in total, including one to Beamer's Gamecocks.

This offseason, Kentucky has made some notable moves in the transfer portal that could lead to the Cats bouncing back, but will the head man in Lexington give off any indication or revert to keeping his true feelings close to the vest? We'll find out more on Tuesday.

The Tennessee Volunteers

Looking back at last season, there's no question that South Carolina's victory over the Tennessee Volunteers was one of historic proportions and, more than likely, dashed the Volunteers' chances at making the college football playoff. There's no question that Josh Heupel and his players will be asked about this in some fashion on Thursday.

What'll be interesting to see is if the Volunteers downplay this year's matchup or make it known that they have it circled on their schedule. Remember to grab your popcorn.
