Gamecock Players Comment On Juice Wells', Nick Emmanwori's Progress
At the beginning of this week, Shane Beamer was blunt with his injury report during his Sunday teleconference call with the media; Markee Anderson and Jatius Geer were probable for this week, and everybody else was questionable. That latter group included names like Nick Emmanwori, David Spaulding, Keenan Nelson Jr., Ahmarean Brown, and some other role players.
Beamer did say that all of those aforementioned players practiced in some capacity on Tuesday except for Brown, who's expected to participate in Wednesday's practice. One other player who has seemingly dealt with a lingering lower-body issue has been Juice Wells, who missed most of preseason camp with an undisclosed injury and has largely been MIA regarding the stat sheet over the first two weeks of the season. Many have speculated that Juice is still dealing with his preseason injury and simply trying to work himself back into playing form after missing so much time, and based on what Dakereon Joyner said about the receiver room and Juice's status on Wednesday, there might be some validity to those rumors.
"I think it's a very strong [receiver] group... gonna start to get Juice going again now that he's more healthy."
With Joyner giving a subtle revelation about Juice's progress, he was then asked what Antwane's return could do in terms of increasing the potential of the receiving core, and his response was about how anyone would've probably answered that question.
"What do y'all think? I think so, [and] I think those guys are going to continue to grow."
The good news for Gamecock fans is it seems like Juice isn't the only one progressing well coming off his injury. Nick Emmanwori left the North Carolina game early in the contest with what was later revealed to be a hamstring issue. While missing last week's game against Furman, Emmanwori still dressed out, which was notable considering most injured players are typically left off the dress list to give them time to rest more and potentially avoid any distractions. Nick also could've dressed out to act as an extra coach for the younger defensive backs like Jalon Kilgore.
On Wednesday, veteran starter Marcellas Dial was asked about the secondary navigating Nick's injury considering his presence in their group, and the fifth-year senior complimented his leadership intangibles and ended his comments with this interesting nugget.
"[Nick] should be back this week, definitely."
