REPORT: Gamecocks Expected To Hire Another Former Texas A&M Assistant
They say the best thing about Texas is the barbeque, specifically their brisket. While Shane Beamer and some of his football staff may feel the same way or indifferent on that matter, it does appear that South Carolina's head football coach has taken a liking to some of Jimbo Fisher's assistant coaches who were a part of his staff in 2023.
According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Marquel Blackwell, who served as Texas A&M's running backs coach in 2023, is expected to be hired for the same role with the Gamecocks. Blackwell has three years of experience coaching in the SEC:
- His aforementioned season with the Aggies
- A season with the Florida Gators as a Quality Control coach in 2015
- A season with Ole Miss serving as the Rebels running backs coach in 2022
Blackwell helped develop All-SEC back Quinshon Judkins at Ole Miss two seasons ago and witnessed Judkins lead the SEC in rushing yards with 1,565 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. Blackwell is a St. Petersburg, Florida native.
