Three Offensive Players To Watch: Mississippi State
As Mississippi State travels to Columbia and the Gamecocks look to get another win on the season, it's crucial to identify the key offensive players South Carolina will have to contain on Saturday night. Here are the three players that deserve a closer look:
Will Rogers
The Bulldogs' quarterback, Will Rogers, stands out on Mississippi State's roster. Transitioning from an air raid to a pro-style offense, Rogers has had some growing pains; however, the stats might not capture his true talent and contribution to the team, but his ability to adapt and excel is a testament to his skill set. As he gains more experience and comfort in the new offensive style, Rogers could pose a serious threat to opponents.
Jo'Quavious 'Woody' Marks
You might find it surprising to see a running back make headlines in Mississippi State's offensive line-up, but Jo'Quavious Starks is no ordinary player. With an impressive average of 6.4 yards per carry, Starks brings a new dimension to this philosophically revamped Bulldogs' offense. His involvement in the passing game, especially screens, makes him a multi-dimensional player and a challenge to opposing defenses.
Lideatrick 'Tulu' Griffin
Wide receiver Lideatrick Griffin has quickly become Will Rogers' go-to player. Griffin is often on the receiving end of Rogers' passes when a play needs to be made. His stats may not reflect his full potential, but make no mistake: Griffin is an incredibly talented player who also makes an immense impact in the return game on special teams. His chemistry with Rogers and ability to make critical plays will be instrumental in Mississippi State's offensive success.
These three players bring a fresh and dynamic approach to Mississippi State's offense and will be playmakers that the Gamecocks' defense will have to corral in order to have a successful night on Saturday.
