2024 WR Micah Gilbert Names Gamecocks In Top 7
Justin Stepp, Dowell Loggains, and the rest of South Carolina's offensive coaching staff have prioritized the wide receiver position in the 2024 recruiting cycle. This prioritization is due to some lost recruiting battles in the past couple of classes and some give-and-take in the transfer portal, leading to a top-heavy receiver room in 2023 from a proven depth standpoint.
The Gamecocks have put themselves in a great position with multiple receivers, landing in-state playmaker Mazeo Bennett and being currently viewed as a serious contender for Jonathan Paylor, Zion Ragins, and Micah Gilbert. Gilbert is a receiver prospect from Charlotte Christian School in Charlotte, NC, less than one hour away from Columbia, and could provide some size that South Carolina is looking to add their room.
While the competition here has been stiff, Shane Beamer and his coaching staff have made some headway with Micah, evidenced by the fact they were included in his top seven list he released on social media this past Saturday.
Gilbert has visited six programs this Spring, four of which are included in his latest cut; the Gamecocks, Pittsburgh, Michigan, and North Carolina. South Carolina has received the most visits from the rising senior to this point in his recruitment, with Gilbert having made it to Columbia three times overall and twice since the beginning of last season.
