Michael Smith Locked In with South Carolina
There are few players in the class of 2024 with more attention on them right now than Michael Smith. The Gamecocks' 2024 commit surfaced in college football news recently after his excellent performances in Under Armor's All-American Camp in Atlanta this past weekend.
His performances have garnered support from multiple teams, including Tennessee and Alabama. Both schools are continuing their pursuit of the four-star TE. However, Smith is not giving them the time of day. Both schools still text Smith, but he says he doesn't respond to the messages; he only acknowledges them.
Even with Smith committing to South Carolina in January, he still receives offers from SEC schools such as LSU. Despite the constant support from other schools, Smith remains engaged and energized in his future with the Gamecocks, citing the support and friendship he has shared with his fellow 2024 commits. The group of future Gamecocks has focused their collective energy on bringing offensive lineman Blake Franks to Columbia.
Smith's relationship with South Carolina's tight ends coach Jody Wright has also developed well. Smith has said he and Wright call each other randomly and share conversations. While we are still a ways away from seeing Smith donning the garnet and black jerseys in Columbia, it's safe to say Smith is excited to join the team in 2024.
