ICYMI: 2024 Safety Ricardo Jones Includes Gamecocks In Top 9
One of the facets of growth for South Carolina's Football program since Shane Beamer's arrival has been the complete makeover certain position groups have undergone. The secondary in Clayton White's defense has been one of those units, as they saw massive contributions from 2022 enrollees like Nick Emmanwori, DQ Smith and Kajuan Banks, and will expect the same from multiple 2023 signees like Jalon Kilgore and Vicari Swain.
While the 2024 class already includes a couple of blue-chip commits in the defensive backfield like Kelvin Hunter and Braydon Lee, they are still in the game for several other targets at this spot, one of them being Georgia native Ricardo Jones. Jones has received interest from a bevy of programs both within the SEC and all across the country, and has reached a point where he's ready for the next stage of his recruitment, as he released a list of his top nine schools on Saturday evening, a list that included the Gamecocks.
South Carolina is joined by fellow SEC counterparts like LSU, Auburn, Tennessee and Arkansas, along with schools like Clemson and Texas. The Gamecocks have only received one visit from Ricardo, which was back on March 19th this past year, so they'll likely need to get Jones back on campus in order to have a chance to remain in the race long-term.
