Shane Beamer and South Carolina's Football coaching staff have gotten off to a hot start in the 2024 recruiting cycle. This early momentum has put the program in an envious position regarding several positions on their recruiting board, like quarterback, tight end, and offensive line.

With the Gamecocks guaranteed to lose only one tight end in transfer Trey Knox after the 2023 season concludes, Jody Wright and offensive coaching staff have already landed a pledge from Georgia native Michael Smith, a prospect with a skill set that matches the position's modern-day responsibilities. With Smith in the fold, Beamer & Co. have offered multiple 2025 prospects like Logan Brooking, Emaree Winston, and Ethan Barbour.

Barbour recently chatted with Evan Crowell, the publisher for FanNation's Tennessee affiliate, Volunteer Country, to give the latest update on the leading contenders in his recruitment. He gave glowing remarks about his visit to Columbia back on April 1st.

"Coach [Shane] Beamer, he has something special going on over there. He has turned the program around. Coach [Jody] Wright likes to do something special with his tight ends too. They got a couple of transfers, a couple of dogs, and they like throwing the ball a lot. But they also use tight ends in the run game a lot, so to go there, you have to be versatile as well, so I really like what they are doing with the tight ends."

Industry experts currently view the Georgia Bulldogs as the leader in Barbour's recruitment. Still, the Gamecocks have proven before you can't count them out in heavyweight recruiting battles, and that should remain the case here with Ethan.
